Tractor Driving in Field

Cotton is cultivated across 45,000 hectares of land, including 30,000 hectares farmed through an out-grower model.

The company's farming and ginning operations produce a substantial yield of 160,000 metric tons of raw cotton and 65,000 metric tons of cotton fibre each year.

To support this, Prime Cotton maintain a fleet of over 800 tractors and 200 cotton pickers from renowned manufacturers that include John Deere, New Holland, and JCB.

Water efficiency

Terraces and contours created through land forming help prevent soil erosion and reduce runoff, 6x less water needed for the same surface area.

Soil health

Land forming helps improve soil structure and promotes nutrient cycling, leading to healthier and more productive cotton plants.

Increased yields

By optimising water and nutrient availability, land forming contributes to higher cotton yields and improved quality.

Crop resilience

Land formed fields are often more resilient to extreme weather, such as droughts and floods, due to improved water management.

Water Efficiency

Watering Field

Water is a precious resource, and we are committed to using it responsibly. Our drip irrigation systems deliver water directly to the roots of our cotton plants, reducing water waste and increasing efficiency. Additionally, we have implemented improved drainage systems to prevent waterlogging to ensure our fields are well-drained.

Technology

We are at the forefront of the latest advancements in Azerbaijan’s agricultural technology helping revolutionize cotton production in the country.

Drone spraying: We have successfully piloted drone spraying for precise and efficient pesticide and fertilizer application, ensuring optimal crop health and reduced environmental impact.

Soil probes: We have piloted, and begun to roll out, a series of EM35 soil probes to monitor soil moisture, nutrient levels, and salinity, enabling us to tailor our farming practices to the specific needs of varying land.

GPS: Our fleet of John Deere CP690 cotton pickers feature the latest GPS technology helping automate tasks such as planting, fertilizing, and harvesting, leading to increased productivity and greater efficiency. The acquisition of such equipment is aided by government subsidies, allowing us to invest in new systems, processes and ultimately greater productivity for farmers and the land that they farm.

Renewable energy: We are actively exploring the integration of renewable energy sources, particularly wind power, given Azerbaijan's abundant wind resources. By harnessing the power of wind, we aim to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and contribute to a cleaner and greener future. We are also exploring a bio-diesel plant, powered by cottonseed oil. Our commitment to renewable energy aligns with our broader sustainability vision and demonstrates our dedication to responsible business practices.

Local Communities

We believe in supporting the communities in which we operate. Working closely with local farmers, and farming communities, we support initiatives that promote economic development, education & environmental stewardship throughout Azerbaijan.

Pre-crop finance: Our pre-crop finance scheme, and interest free loans, allow farmers to cover the cost of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, equipment, and other expenses in preparation for the growing season. By providing farmers with access to credit before they harvest their crops, we help ensure that they have the resources needed to be successful. This is particularly beneficial for small-scale farmers who have limited access to other forms of financing.

Education: Working with local farmers, many of which are third generation, we help to educate them on the latest technology and innovative ways of working whilst also preserving traditional farming practises, their rich knowledge and history.

Employment: Agriculture is a vital part of Azerbaijan's economy, providing jobs and income to numerous rural communities. Supporting local farmers helps contribute to the development of such areas, improving local  infrastructure and services. Further to this, all employees, across each of our sites, are given free food, filtered water and offered frequent medical checks.

We believe it essential to engage and appeal to the next generation of farmers to ensure future prosperity. A vibrant and innovative agricultural sector will contribute to economic growth and development, providing jobs and opportunities for young people.

The next generation are more likely to be familiar with, and adept at using, modern farming techniques and technologies, helping improve efficiency and productivity. By attracting young people to agriculture, and sustainable farming methods, we may ensure the long-term health of the country’s agricultural industry.
